Hydrocephalus is a condition where there is an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain creating potentially harmful pressure on the brain's tissues. While an estimated 1 in 1,000 babies are born with hydrocephalus, it can also occur later in life and there are more than 40,000 hydrocephalus operations performed each year.
