A yearly estimate of over 12,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive cervical cancer. About 80 to 90 percent of cases are squamous cell cancers while the remaining 10 to 20 percent are adenocarcinoma. While cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women worldwide, it is also one of the most preventable because of increased awareness for early detection.
